In a strategic move, Xiaomi’s automotive venture, Xiaomi EV, is gearing up for a technology-centric launch event on December 28, deviating from traditional product unveilings. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun clarified that the focus would be solely on cutting-edge technology, dispelling earlier rumors about the imminent debut of the much-anticipated electric vehicle, the SU7.
While the Xiaomi EV Weibo account, with a modest 68,000 followers, may seem small, the tech giant appears to be strategically building its online presence, adopting a phased approach to generate anticipation. This departure from the conventional smartphone launch strategy has enthusiasts speculating about Xiaomi’s calculated gamble or a well-thought-out strategy.
Contrary to initial expectations, the SU7 will not be revealed on December 28, aligning with a phased launch strategy common in the automotive industry. The sedan, measuring 4,997 mm in length and boasting a spacious wheelbase of 3,000 mm, positions itself uniquely against competitors like Tesla’s Model 3 and Nio’s ET5.
Highlighting Xiaomi’s commitment to range and efficiency, the SU7’s battery options, supplied by Chinese giants BYD and CATL, offer capacities of 73.6 kWh and 101 kWh. The 73.6-kWh battery provides commendable CLTC ranges of 628 km and 668 km, while the powerful 101 kWh pack pushes boundaries with an impressive 750 km and 800 km range.
In a recent interview with CCTV, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun expressed ambitious aspirations for the SU7, emphasizing a determination to make Xiaomi a formidable player in the competitive electric vehicle landscape. The December 28 event, focusing on automotive technology, sets the stage for Xiaomi’s foray into a new era of innovation.
