The Audi Q6 e-tron quattro has established itself as the champion of long-distance travel in the all-electric SUV market. In a recent 1,000 km endurance test, the Q6 e-tron surpassed its rivals, including the renowned Tesla Model Y, highlighting Audi’s advancements in EV technology.
Renowned EV reviewer Bjørn Nyland conducted this rigorous test. The Audi Q6 e-tron, boasting a 100 kWh battery and all-wheel drive, completed the journey in just 9 hours and 30 minutes. This performance eclipsed the older Audi e-tron 55 and the new Q8 e-tron by 50 minutes and outpaced the Tesla Model Y by 15 minutes, thanks to its efficient performance and fewer charging stops—four compared to the Model Y’s six.
Key factors contributing to the Audi Q6 e-tron success include its impressive range of over 400 km at a highway speed of 120 km/h, rapid charging capabilities of up to 285 kW, and efficient energy consumption. Despite not having the absolute best energy consumption in its class, the Q6 e-tron’s size and performance make its consumption respectable.
Nyland’s strategic planning, maintaining an average speed of 105 km/h including charging stops, and optimized charging strategy ensured the Q6 e-tron’s efficiency. The vehicle averaged an impressive 2.3 miles per kWh (3.7 km/kWh) throughout the test.
Though the Tesla Model Y exhibits a 30% lower energy consumption in its Long Range AWD and 15% lower in its Performance version, the Audi Q6 e-tron’s larger battery and superior charging speed gave it the winning edge. This endurance test victory is a testament to Audi’s EV innovation and a promising sign for its future in the all-electric SUV market.
