Xiaomi, the tech giant renowned for its smartphones and consumer electronics, has recently entered the electric vehicle (EV) market with the SU7 sedan. In a last-minute decision, the company has made some subtle changes to the vehicle’s design, as revealed by documents from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The most notable adjustments include resizing the brand’s name for a more balanced aesthetic and introducing new 21-inch wheels, brake calipers in various colors, and carbon fiber mirror caps. These refinements aim to enhance the overall visual appeal of the SU7, which is poised to compete with established electric vehicles like the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.
One of the standout features of the SU7 is its dual-motor setup, delivering an impressive 664 horsepower in the top-tier model. This power propels the sedan from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.78 seconds, putting it in direct competition with high-performance electric cars.
Xiaomi’s commitment to innovation extends beyond performance, as the SU7 boasts an estimated range of up to 800 km between charges. The 800-volt architecture ensures rapid recharging, allowing the vehicle to regain 220 km of range in just five minutes at a fast-charging station. This emphasis on both range and charging speed positions Xiaomi competitively in the growing electric vehicle market.
Morgan Stanley, in its recent projections, has assigned an intrinsic value of RMB 90 billion (€11.74 billion) to Xiaomi’s EV business. The analysis highlights Xiaomi’s distinctive approach, integrating smartphone technology with EVs and the Internet of Things (IoT). This unique strategy, coupled with its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), sets Xiaomi apart in the evolving landscape of electric vehicles.
While the technical details of Xiaomi’s SU7 have made a significant splash, pricing information remains undisclosed, adding an element of anticipation to the upcoming market launch.
