Xiaomi SU7 European launch
Xiaomi took the stage by storm at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, introducing its inaugural entry into the electric vehicle market with the Xiaomi SU7. Departing from traditional automotive showcases, Xiaomi strategically chose MWC over the Geneva Motor Show to unveil its groundbreaking EV to European audiences.
The SU7 Max, showcased in striking Gulf Blue, captured the attention of tech enthusiasts and automotive aficionados alike on the MWC floor. Despite the allure of the vehicle, Xiaomi maintained a cautious perimeter around the car, perhaps indicative of their guarded approach to media scrutiny.
Accompanying the unveiling, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing engaged with fans on Weibo, gauging their excitement for the SU7. Weibing’s post hinted at Xiaomi’s ambitious sales target of 20 million units, drawing parallels to the company’s success in the premium smartphone market in China. Additionally, he reaffirmed Xiaomi’s substantial $10 billion investment commitment towards EV development.
In an exclusive interview, Weibing disclosed Xiaomi’s timeline for mass production, targeting the second quarter of the year for initial shipments of the SU7. The showcased SU7 Max model boasts impressive specs, including all-wheel drive, 664 bhp power, a 101 kWh battery pack, and an 800V architecture. Notably, its CLTC range of 800 km and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds underscore its prowess in performance.
The design philosophy of the SU7 is a testament to Xiaomi’s commitment to innovation. Characterized by sleek curves and aerodynamic contours, the car exudes a modern and dynamic aesthetic. Sporting sporty front and rear bumpers with low aero designs, the SU7 features a drag coefficient of just 0.195Cd, setting a new standard for production vehicles. Active air tunnels strategically positioned along the car’s body further enhance performance, aiding in brake cooling at high speeds.
As anticipation mounts for the SU7’s availability in the European market, details regarding pricing and shipping dates remain undisclosed. While prospects may seem uncertain, Xiaomi’s foray into the EV sector signals a significant shift in the automotive landscape, promising consumers cutting-edge technology and unparalleled innovation.
