Rivian’s eagerly anticipated R2, unveiled in March, has already garnered significant attention and reservations. Recent reports indicate a key change in the R2’s design: the charging port will be located at the rear on the driver’s side. This update was reportedly confirmed by a Rivian VP at the Rivian Space in Pasadena.
Originally, the charging port was positioned at the rear on the passenger’s side, a deliberate choice to accommodate street chargers, especially in European markets. The shift to the driver’s side rear is expected to please American Rivian R2 owners who use Tesla Superchargers, eliminating the need for awkward parking maneuvers.
As the R2 is set to hit the streets in 2026, speculation arises about potential dual charging ports or market-specific designs to cater to different regions. Until then, Rivian fans eagerly await further details.
